Dr Emma Buxton is a Senior Sport Coaching Lecturer at Northampton University and is the programme leader for the BSc Sport Coaching Programme. 

Emma completed her undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science and then continued to complete a Master’s in Sport Biomechanics at Loughborough University. This followed onto completing a PhD within the biomechanics research team at the Loughborough Gymnastics Performance and Research Centre. 

Emma has also worked for National Governing Bodies in sport as a sports education and assessor. She has also helped design and map coaching education content for coaching courses.

Workshops and Clinics:

This blend of coaching practical experience and theory knowledge means that Emma is well placed to offer coaching clinics and workshops. Emma also understands the importance of coach development and investing in your coach’s education. Please use the contact form below to express your interest in running a virtual or onsite workshop at your club. This can be tailored to your clubs/coaches/athletes needs but topics could include:

  1. Understanding your athlete needs analysis – A truly holistic approach to coaching and how to feed this into long term planning 
  2. Team building for clubs – where we look at the club ethos, personal coaching philosophies and coaching styles/approaches 
  3. Performing a skill technical analysis – breaking a skill down into it’s physical and technical components
  4. Biomechanics of gymnastics skills – understanding the biomechanics of bars skills, vault and tumble elements, including twisting

Emma can also provide in-house and online mentoring for sports coaches. Emma is a Senior qualified Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Coach and tutor and assessor. She has worked with several clubs as their coach development officer which includes mentoring, practical observations and feedback, completing mock assessments and assistance with theory content from level 3 through to international level.
